Midweek Motivation

I'm writing a first draft and reminding myself that I'm simply shoveling sand into a box so that later I can build castles

All writers write differently.

There are those who take their time, and rewrite as they go. Those who need to make sure every sentence is just right before moving onto the next.

Then there are those who throw caution to the wind and just type whatever comes to mind. It doesn’t matter if it makes sense, or if there are spelling mistakes. What matters is that they write.

I’ve done both.

On my mission to make every word perfect, I failed at writing my novel. I never moved forward becuase I was too busy trying to fix what i’d just written. It wasn’t until I started forcing myself to ignore my inner editor did I actually finish… not one, but three novels.

All writers write differently.

But I’ve learned that it doesn’t matter how bad my first draft might sound, or if it doesn’t make sense, or if that one word I used to describe something isn’t the right one. My first draft is merely a foundation on which to build something better.
